Why we made Canine Copilot
Being a dog-parent is tough in the city.
We made it much easier.
Three years ago, we discovered how incredibly hard it is to nurture a healthy relationship with your dog in a modern urban life. The BIGGEST problem? You can’t go anywhere with your dog!
Go to the park? No, most parks don’t let dogs in.
Go to the into the forest? No, too far and so many Uber drivers refuse you.
Go to the mall? Go to a cafe? Go to a gym? No, there are too few dog-friendly destinations to make it easy, and driving between them is tiring, expensive, and not fun for you nor your dog!

(Dog + Human) x Adventure = ♥
Sharing adventures with your dog is the best way to nurture the best friendship in history.
The relationship between a dog and its master is unlike any other you might have. History is full of stories of how dogs and humans create unique, complex, and fulfilling relationships, but as we’ve moved into cities this relationship has suffered because while humans have more choices than ever, most dogs are relegated to sitting at home in a small apartment for 95% of the day waiting for the same monotonous walk.

The Bicycle
How can you start having adventures with you dog? The bicycle.
We’ve broken out of the monotonous dog-human relationship by taking our dogs on the bicycle.
It’s convenient. You can go to new places with your dog that were outside of your original walking radius.
It’s healthy. Your dog participates in the adventure rather than being trapped in a crate, bag, or backpack. The smells and sites stimulate its mind, mood, and body.
It’s fun. Having your dog between your arms while riding creates unlimited opportunities for intimate interactions that you would never have if you had to drive a car.

The Dog
But make sure you and your dog are safe and have fun
BUT!!!!! We found it’s not as safe and easy as one might think. Too many dog owners were putting their dogs’ lives at risk by balancing them on a basket that was not designed for a dog to enjoy. At best this meant a lot of stress and anxiety for both dog and master. At worst, both dog and master would get seriously injured.

How did we (re)design the bicycle for you and your dog?
Dogs, humans, and bicycles come in many shapes and sizes. What started as a simple design challenge for us became a 3-year adventure to make solutions for all dogs, all humans, and (most) bikes.
(Simply slapping any old basket on a bike is a HORRIBLE solution)
Design the cockpit for the unique shape and posture of a dog, not a human!
-
Paw Platform
provides options for different postures throughout the ride without creating dangerous movements for the rider.
-
Tail Pocket
allows long-tailed dogs to sit comfortably without squishing their tail in an awkward position, while also allowing the rider to have more room for her knees while pedaling.
-
Shoulder Supports
are specifically placed for 4-legged animals. Unlike humans who need “back support,” our 4-legged dog friends benefit from lateral shoulder support. Your pup can lean into turns and the cutout backing gives the you easier contact time too.
Don't forget the rider has needs too!

All-bike Ready!
Bike riders need to be comfortable while riding. There are many, many kinds of bikes, and we’ve done our best to create a solution for as many bikes as we could find. Regular testing, designing, and redesigning has expanded our solution to bikes that usually do not have a good way to carry dogs.

Bike riders need to be comfortable while riding. There are many, many kinds of bikes, and we’ve done our best to create a solution for as many bikes as we could find. Regular testing, designing, and redesigning has expanded our solution to bikes that usually do not have a good way to carry dogs.
Brompton and folding bikes: Folding bikes are convenient to bring places, but they don’t leave much room for a dog. Our first designs made it difficult for the rider to cycle and turn with your dog and basket in front. So, we’ve heightened the basket to give room for your knees while cycling and changed the angle of attachment so that your pup is sitting parallel to the ground.
Road bikes: These bikes go fast because they keep the rider leaning low over the handlebars. This means there is usually no room to install a basket, so we’ve created a rear seat tube support to make it possible to attach the basket from the rear where there is more room. We still suggest switch away from dropbars to make it more comfortable for your and your pup though.
Old bikes: Bikes have changed a lot over time. Older bikes are actually perfectly designed to carry things, but they use much smaller diameter tubing (only 22.2mm!). Our adapter shims allow installation on both old bikes’ small diameter tubing and new bikes large diameter tubing.
Brook & Breeze is not your typical bike brand… and that’s why we succeed.

The Team
Brook & Breeze is on a mission to make the bicycle the best mobility solution for your urban lifestyle. We know that the bicycle is much more than a toy for recreation but creates a way of life that makes everyone happier, healthier, richer, and more fulfilled. To achieve this, we’ve got a pretty eclectic team of talent that does things differently:
-
The Whole Process
From design to fabrication to testing to marketing to riding to community. Brook & Breeze does not just slap labels on existing products and trying to sell them. We start from the ground up to create solutions that are truly innovative and make our users lives better.
-
Active Over Athletic
Our team at Brook & Breeze has never won a gold medal in a cycling competition… in fact, we’ve probably never won a medal in an athletic competition. But, we’re are all exceptionally active people who bike everywhere we go. We understand that cycling is not about the fastest speed, but rather for solving for all the little challenges that come up when exploring and commuting. We’re made up of people who carry dogs to new destinations, take tents on bikes to go camping, carry pianos on bikes for concert, and even sponsor Santa Claus to deliver present via bike. Together, we’ve cycling tens of thousands of kilometers doing everything you can imagine on a bike, and that’s why we know how to create solutions.
-
Diverse Community
We don’t always get along with each because we come from very different places, times, and backgrounds. Many customers ask us if we’re a “foreign brand” and we say, “maybe?” Our team comes from all over the world, but more importantly for us is that we’re in different life ages, different genders, different sexual orientations, and different cultures. This allows us to draw on a diverse community of partners to help us understand how to create solutions for users that often don’t have a strong voice in the cycling world: pet owners, parents, women, elderly… and more.
